Answer
The desktop app includes an HR Module panel that shows a live compliance summary and provides a one-click path to open the full HR Suite in your browser. All document management, policy publishing, checklists, training, and expense claims are handled inside the web app ÔÇö the desktop panel is a launch pad and status board, not a replacement for the web UI.
Opening the HR Module panel
Select HR Module from the left navigation bar. If no company is currently open you will see a prompt to select one first.
Compliance summary cards
Once open, the panel displays six status cards for the active company:
- Missing Documents
- Expiring Documents
- Unacknowledged Policies
- Overdue Checklists
- Overdue Training
- Expiring Training
Each card shows a count and a colour-coded severity (OK, warning, or action needed). Click Refresh at any time to reload the counts from local data.
Launching the web app from the desktop
Click Manage HR in Web App. A confirmation dialog titled Sync & Open HR Module will appear, explaining that your local desktop data will be uploaded to the web app before the browser opens. Click Yes to continue.
- If you have not previously authenticated, a login wizard opens. Enter your Lightning Payroll web app email and password. This is the same login used at the website ÔÇö it is not the same as your application password unless you have set them to be identical.
- If two-factor authentication is enabled on your account, enter the six-digit code when prompted.
- A progress dialog shows Syncing data to web app… while your local database is packaged and uploaded.
- When the upload completes, the HR Suite opens automatically in your default browser.
If the sync fails, a warning shows the error and provides a direct URL (app.lightningpayroll.com.au/admin/hr) you can open manually to access HR Suite without re-syncing.
What “syncing local data” means
The sync packages your current desktop database (employees, pay history, company settings) and uploads it to the web app so that HR Suite has up-to-date records to work with. Your desktop data replaces the web app copy for that company. This is a one-way push ÔÇö nothing is downloaded back to the desktop at this point. Run it whenever you have made payroll changes in the desktop app that HR Suite needs to reflect.
HR Suite add-on not active
If the HR Suite add-on is not included in your subscription, the panel shows an upgrade prompt instead of the compliance cards. Click Explore the interactive HR+ guide to open a browser walkthrough of HR Suite features, or use the upgrade link shown to add the add-on to your plan.
Once inside the web app, see What Is The Recommended First-Week HR Suite Setup Sequence? and UI Reference: How Do I Navigate Every HR Suite Section And Sub-Tab? for next steps.
