Answer
After submitting Employment Information (EI), use the Payday Filing Mailbox to check the status of each submission and drill into the full detail of any return. The mailbox is available in the online (web/mobile) app and the desktop app.
In the online (web/mobile) app
- Open a pay run and click Payday Filing on the pay run screen.
- Select Payday Filing Mailbox from the menu.
- Connect to Inland Revenue when prompted ÔÇö click Connect to Inland Revenue and complete the browser login if a token is not already active.
- The mailbox lists every EI submission for this company. Each row shows the payday date, submission status, employee count, IR Submission Key, and the number of transmission attempts.
- To check whether Inland Revenue has updated any pending submissions, click Check Pending Responses. The mailbox will refresh with the latest status from IRD.
- To see the full detail of a specific submission, click View on that row.

Understanding the status badge
- Success (green) ÔÇö Inland Revenue accepted the return. No further action is required.
- Pending (blue) ÔÇö The return has not yet received a final response from IRD. Do not re-file; use Check Pending Responses or retrieve the latest from Inland Revenue to check for an update.
- Failed (red) ÔÇö Inland Revenue reported a problem. Open the submission detail to read the error and determine whether an amendment or re-submission is needed.
The submission detail screen
Clicking View opens the Employment Information ÔÇö Submission # screen, which has four tabs.
- Summary ÔÇö Shows the filing details (payday, pay period, employee count, IR Submission Key, and IR Return ID), period totals (gross earnings, PAYE, ESCT, KiwiSaver employee and employer, student loan), and a timeline of when the submission was created, queued, sent, and completed. A Technical details section can be expanded for diagnostic fields such as the EI reference, environment, and gateway address.
- Transmission Attempts ÔÇö Lists every network attempt with the sent time, HTTP status, transport result, duration, and any error message.
- IR Responses ÔÇö Shows each response received from Inland Revenue, including the HTTP status, IR status, IR code, request and correlation IDs, and any messages. Use Retrieve latest from Inland Revenue on this tab to ask IRD for the current state of a filed return and update the record.
- Employees ÔÇö Lists every employee line included in the submission with their IRD number, tax code, gross earnings, PAYE, KiwiSaver, ESCT, student loan, child support, and hours.

If Inland Revenue has not responded yet
If the status is still Pending after clicking Check Pending Responses, do not re-submit the pay run. Wait a short time and try again, or open the submission detail and use Retrieve latest from Inland Revenue on the IR Responses tab. Submitting a duplicate EI can cause IRD to receive the same pay twice, which requires an amendment to correct.
In the desktop app
