Answer
The Retrospective Tool lets you update the description, category, or classification of allowances and deductions across a range of past completed pays in bulk, without reopening and unlocking each pay individually.
In the desktop app
Go to Tools >> Retrospective Tool. The wizard will ask you to choose a date range, optionally filter by employee, and then select Allowances or Deductions from the What would you like to change? dropdown. After selecting the pays you want to amend, choose the allowances or deductions to edit and confirm your changes.
In the online (web/mobile) app
Navigate to Tools >> Retrospective Tool. The tool walks you through four steps:
- Date range ÔÇö set the start and end dates covering the completed pays you want to change.
- Select employees ÔÇö choose the employees whose pays should be included.
- Select pays ÔÇö use the What would you like to change? dropdown to pick Allowances or Deductions, optionally narrow the list with Filter by Employee, then tick the pays you want to update.
- Edit ÔÇö the corresponding editor opens for the pays you selected.
Editing allowances
The Retrospective Allowance Editor lists every allowance attached to the selected pays. Use Filter by Description to narrow the list, select one or more allowance rows, then click the edit button. In the form you can change the Description, the Allowance Category, and whether the allowance is Itemised. The amount and taxable flag cannot be changed here.

Editing deductions
The Retrospective Deduction Editor works the same way. Select one or more deductions, click the edit button, and update the Description or Classification. The amount, percentage, and other calculation fields are read-only in this editor.
When you click Next at the final step, a Confirm Retrospective Changes prompt appears. Confirm to apply the updates to all affected pays at once.
