Answer
A Connection error or Failed on internet connection! message in the Lightning Payroll Timeclock app means the device could not reach the Lightning Payroll server. Work through the steps below to resolve it.
1. Check Your Internet Connection
Confirm the device has a working internet connection ÔÇö open a browser and load any website. If the connection is down, restore it and try again. If your network uses a proxy, verify the proxy settings are correct, as an incorrect proxy can also trigger this error.
2. Update Your Android Version
Devices running Android 7.1 or lower are not trusted by modern TLS certificates. This causes the Timeclock app to be rejected at the server and is one of the most common causes of a persistent connection error on older hardware.
To check your Android version and update it, visit the Google Support page on updating Android. If the device cannot be updated past Android 7.1, it can no longer be used as a timeclock.
3. Update the Timeclock App
Make sure you are running the latest version of the Lightning Payroll Timeclock app. Open the Google Play Store (Android) or Apple App Store (iOS) and install any available update.
4. Still Not Connecting?
If the steps above do not resolve the error, contact Lightning Payroll support and include the device model and Android/iOS version so the issue can be investigated further.
