Evidence rules are separate from the payroll entry. Lightning Payroll records the pay row and leave effect; it does not store a legal decision about whether evidence was required or supplied.
- For sick leave, evidence may be requested under the Employment NZ rules, including special rules for absences of 3 or more calendar days.
- For bereavement leave, keep enough information to support the entitlement without recording unnecessary personal detail.
- For family violence leave, protect the employee's privacy. Avoid sensitive descriptions on payslips or visible pay-row text.
Support should not ask customers to upload sensitive evidence into ordinary payroll notes. Record only what is needed to explain the payroll treatment.
