If the employee has not met the sick leave qualifying period or statutory work test, do not force a Sick Leave deduction unless the employer is deliberately providing paid sick leave in advance or a more generous entitlement.
- Check the NZ sick leave qualifying period (months) field under Employees >> Leave >> Leave Settings.
- Open Leave Entitlement/Adjustments and click How is this balance calculated? to see the next sick anniversary and pending grants.
- If the absence is unpaid, use the Unpaid leave type on the pay.
- If the employer agrees to paid leave in advance, record the basis clearly in the pay-row description or employee notes.
