Answer
If a public holiday falls during another absence, decide whether the day is an otherwise working day and which leave type legally applies.
- If the public holiday is payable, enter Public Holiday for that day and do not also deduct Sick, Bereavement, Family Violence, or Annual Holidays for the same day.
- If the employee is on unpaid leave, public holiday payment is usually not due, but there are exceptions such as some closedown or exhausted paid-leave situations.
- If the day is not otherwise working, no paid public holiday row is usually entered.
Split the leave rows around the public holiday so the balances and payslip are clear.
